Borrow & Lend
Track items + money you lent or borrowed, with reminders
About Borrow & Lend
A borrow-lend tracker is a lightweight log of things you've lent out (books, tools, money, equipment) and things you've borrowed — with optional reminders so a 'just for the weekend' loan doesn't quietly become a permanent transfer. It's the digital answer to the friend who keeps mentally tallying who owes whom and getting it wrong.
When this matters
- Books and media. The classic forever-lost category. Track who has your copy of Crime and Punishment; cheerfully reclaim it 6 months later.
- Tools. Power tools, ladders, drills — expensive enough to actually want back, easy enough to forget who has them.
- Money between friends. Small loans where neither person wants a Venmo paper trail but both want it remembered.
- Camping / sports gear. Tents, kayaks, gym equipment — high-value, low-frequency items easy to lose track of.
- Office equipment. Anyone managing shared lab / workshop / studio inventory.
The reminder pattern that works
The trick to making lending sustainable is a low-friction reminder, not a confrontation. Set the expected-return date when you lend (a week, a month, whatever feels right). A day before, the tracker pings you — not the borrower. You decide whether it's worth a casual 'hey, did you finish that book?' or whether you've stopped caring. Borrowers tend to remember when politely prompted; the awkwardness is almost always in bringing it up, not in being asked.
Privacy and storage
Free-tier entries are saved locally in your browser (no server, no account needed). Clearing site data wipes them — export a copy if you want a backup.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. By default everything is saved only in this browser. Sign in for free to sync across devices on your account, and Pro members get cloud backup. You only share an entry when you explicitly click "Share receipt".
Yes — every entry has a direction toggle (I lent / I borrowed) so the tool covers both sides. The dashboard shows separate totals for what people owe you and what you owe.
Money entries support a returns log: record each partial payment with a date and note, and the entry shows the running balance until it is fully closed.
Yes. Set a due date on any entry and your browser will alert you the day before and on the day. Browser notification permission is requested only when you enable reminders.
Click "Share receipt" on any open entry to generate a polite link you can text to the person — they can see what they have on loan, and tap "Mark returned" so you both stay in sync without awkward follow-ups.
