About Compare Files

What this does

Compare two versions of the same dataset and see exactly what changed. Pick a key column (like email, id, or sku), and Toolenza groups every row by that key across both files, then highlights:

  • Added — rows present only in the new file
  • Removed — rows present only in the old file
  • Changed — rows where the key matches but other columns differ
  • Unchanged — rows that match exactly

When to use it

  • Reconciling a customer list export from this month vs. last month
  • Spotting which products were added or discontinued in a price list
  • Auditing a colleague's edits to a shared spreadsheet
  • Diffing two database exports

Frequently asked questions

No problem — comparison is by column name, not position. Both files just need to share the key column you pick.

Same key value, but at least one other column has a different value. Whitespace differences count as changes; toggle "trim whitespace" on the toolbar to ignore them.

Yes — each result tab (Added, Removed, Changed) has its own CSV download button.
