Days Between Dates
Exact days, weeks, months between two dates
About Days Between Dates
A days-between calculator turns 'how long from date A to date B' into an exact answer in days, weeks, months, and years. Calendar arithmetic is fiddly — months have different lengths, leap years intrude, business-day exclusions vary by country — and getting it wrong by even a day can matter on legal deadlines, contract clauses, or service-level agreements.
Common uses
- Contracts and rentals. 'Tenant gives 30 days' written notice' — exactly when does the count start? (Conventionally exclusive of the start date, inclusive of the end.)
- Project planning. Working backwards from a launch date to a hard milestone, accounting for weekends and public holidays.
- Pregnancy and due dates. Pair with the due date calculator for week-by-week timeline math.
- Age differences. Calculating the exact gap between two birthdays for genealogy, family records, or sibling spacing.
- Anniversaries. Counting days until a milestone, or working out the day-of-week a past date fell on.
Inclusive vs exclusive endpoints
The biggest practical gotcha. Exclusive (default) is end − start: Jan 1 → Jan 8 = 7 days. Inclusive counts both endpoints: same dates = 8 days. Inclusive is the right convention for rental periods, jail-time computations, and similar 'how many days were occupied' questions. Exclusive is right for 'how long until …' questions. The calculator offers both.
Frequently asked questions
Full calendar months — the day-of-month of the start date must be reached or passed in the end month to count. E.g. Jan 15 → Feb 14 is 0 months and 30 days; Jan 15 → Feb 15 is exactly 1 month.
By default the count is exclusive (end − start). The "include end date" toggle adds one day for cases like contract terms or rental periods.
Yes — toggle "business days only" to exclude weekends. Holiday adjustment is country-specific and can be enabled per region.
Dates are interpreted in your browser timezone. For pure date math (no times), this rarely matters.
