Toolenza for Nurses
Nursing-floor reference, not clinical decision-support
Nursing work needs a flat, fast quick-reference for unit conversions, weight-based estimations, and shift timing — the calculations that you do twenty times a shift and shouldn't be slowed down by an EMR popup. Toolenza covers those, with the same explicit disclaimer the medical tools carry: educational reference only — never a substitute for institutional protocol or the EMR's clinical decision-support.
Every clinical-calc page is purely client-side — values you type stay in your browser. No patient-identifying data should ever be typed in, and the tools don't ask for any.
Daily reference
Patient measurements
bsa— Body Surface Area in m² (Mosteller / DuBois / Haycock). Used for pediatric dosing, cardiac index, burn calculations. Haycock specifically for peds.bmi-calculator— Body Mass Index with WHO category bands.bmr+tdee— energy expenditure for nutrition counselling.body-fat— US Navy circumference method.heart-rate-zones— max-HR and Karvonen reserve methods for the five zones.bpm— tap-out a pulse for quick BPM.
Conversions you do every shift
converter— generic unit converter (lbs ↔ kg, in ↔ cm, mL ↔ fl oz, °F ↔ °C, etc.).temperature— Fahrenheit ↔ Celsius (and Kelvin) with febrile-range highlighting.calculators+percentage-calculator— fast arithmetic.
Obstetrics
pregnancy— gestational age, trimester, milestones.due-date— Naegele's rule from LMP or conception date.
Shift management
multi-stopwatch— labelled stopwatches for handoffs, drips, contraction timing.pomodoro— 25-min charting blocks between med-pass rounds.timer+countdown— drip rate timing, end-of-shift countdown.world-clock+time-zone— for travel-nurse contracts and family across zones.days-between— license renewal, CEU deadlines, follow-up windows.reminders+todos+sticky-notes+quick-notes— running checklist, mental scratchpad.
Study and licensure
flashcards-from-notes— generate NCLEX-style flashcards from class notes; useful for re-cert and bridge programs.sleep— 90-minute sleep cycle calculator, useful at the front of a 12-hour night shift.
Frequently asked questions
No. Nursing tools here are educational reference only — quick mental cross-checks against your EMR's clinical decision-support and your institution's protocol. Any med dose that affects a patient must come from the institutional system, double-checked per policy. Toolenza is not a clinical decision-support system and is not regulated as one.
They were derived from different populations. Mosteller (1987) is the modern adult default. DuBois (1916) was fit on nine cadavers and under-predicts in obesity. Haycock (1978) was validated for neonates and children and is the pediatric standard. The BSA tool computes all three so you can compare; for any patient-care use, follow what your institution's protocol specifies.
No. The clinical calculators run in your browser. You should never type patient-identifying data, but the tools don't ask for any — they only take numerical inputs (height, weight, age).
Yes — `multi-stopwatch` and `timer` persist their start time as wall-clock timestamps, so the elapsed value is accurate even after a tab switch or reload. For background notifications when a drip rate finishes, install the Toolenza PWA.
No — they're supplemental. The flashcards-from-notes tool turns your own class material into spaced-repetition cards, which is great for retention of what you already studied. For full NCLEX prep, use a dedicated board-prep program (UWorld, Kaplan, Saunders).
