GCC and adjacent MENA countries apply different VAT (value-added tax) rates. Saudi Arabia charges the highest at 15% (raised from 5% in July 2020), UAE and Oman charge 5%, Bahrain charges 10% (raised from 5% in January 2022), and Qatar and Kuwait currently have no VAT. Egypt applies a 14% general VAT, Jordan 16%, Iraq 0% (with reforms proposed).

Two directions

The calculator toggles between two common tasks:

• Add VAT (exclusive → inclusive) — you have a net price and want to see the tax-inclusive amount. total = base × (1 + rate).
• Extract VAT (inclusive → exclusive) — you have a receipt total and want to see the base and VAT portions. base = total ÷ (1 + rate), vat = total − base.

Notes on scope

• Rates shown are general (standard) VAT for goods and services. Many countries have zero-rated categories (basic food, medicine, education, exports) and exempt categories (residential rent, financial services). This calculator does not model those exceptions.
• Free-zone rules in UAE and cross-border GCC intra-supply rules can change the effective rate — for real invoicing, work with a qualified VAT accountant or your local ZATCA / FTA equivalent.
• Egypt's general VAT is 14% (raised from 13% in July 2017); reduced 5% and 10% rates apply to specific sectors (equipment, transport). This calculator uses the general rate only.
